From the Settings app

  1. Launch the Settings application.
  2. Now, select Apps and notifications from the list of options.
  3. Go to Advanced.
  4. Choose the Picture-in-picture option.
  5. Now, just select Maps on the screen.
  6. Toggle the Allow picture-in-picture off.

From the Google Maps app

  1. Either unlock the home screen or go to the app drawer.
  2. Now, tap and hold the Google Maps icon.
  3. Select the “I” option.
  4. Navigate to the Advanced section.
  5. Tap on Picture-in-picture.
  6. Now, simply tap on the switch next to Allow picture-in-picture to disable it.
